Abstract:
On the 4th of July, 2012, the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) and CMS(Compact Muon Solenoid) collaborations at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN announced the discovery of a narrow resonance with mass near 125 GeV, whose properties were proved to be consistent with that of the Higgs boson predicted in the standard model of particle physics. We first present a brief review of the Higgs particle and a short introduction to the CMS experiment. Then the discovery of the Higgs particle, the measurements of its properties, and the contributions of Chinese scientists and engineers are described.
